Teen raises money in relatives' memory

Teen raises money in relatives' memory

Posted: 2nd October 2018

A caring teenager got on his bike to raise funds in memory of lost loved ones.

Morgan Hawkins, 13, raised a total of £150 for Isabel Hospice by taking part in a 25k charity cycle.

The Year 8 student from Forest Hall School lost both his aunt and grandfather to cancer in the last two years.

Morgan, who has previously sold bracelets to friends and family and taken part in Race for Life to raise funds, said: “It was really tough when I saw my grandad changing so much. I watched him die and it was horrible, so I don’t want anyone else to have to go through that. I raised the money so doctors can find a cure for cancer.

“My family are really proud of me.”

Morgan is hoping to organise a charity car wash to raise further funds.

Hannah Jones, head of school, said: “It is really important for us to encourage and promote young people getting involved in fundraising. Fundraising enables young people to gain skills for the future, such as confidence, communication, responsibilities and teamwork.

“The lovely thing with this example of fundraising is that Morgan has a personal connection to Isabel Hospice. I look forward to seeing what else Morgan has planned for his future fundraising.”
