Film Club head to the pictures

Posted: 15th November 2016
On Friday 11 November, FHS Film Club students travelled to Empire Cinema in Bishop's Stortford. As members of the 'Into Film' organisation, they were given free tickets to the Film Festival running throughout November. There were several films to choose from as part of themed "strands" such as Weird and Wonderful, See it Be it, Game Changers and Black Star.

The club chose Pete's Dragon from the Culture Clash strand. This re-telling of an old classic featured a young boy named Pete who is in a car accident with his parents in the remote forest of North-Western United States. He survives and lives in the forest for several years with a mythical creature who helps him to stay alive and eventually becomes his family. When discovered by a park ranger and temporarily fostered, Pete must fight to protect his way of life whilst also finding a place for himself in the human world.

Before the film began, students were asked to think about the characters in the film and how they changed. The follow-up discussion was lively as they debated who changed the most--the antagonist! Students were then asked to review the film.

Madi Finnegan, Year 7 JMN-E, said, "I like how Pete grows up and has such a strong relationship with Elliot [the dragon]. The film made me feel happy at times and other times left me in tears. I would rate this movie 5 stars!"

Katie Windmill, Year 7 KML-E, said, "It was a rollercoaster of adventure!"

Isobel Dobran, Year 9 HHY-F, said, "I was in floods of tears by the end. The film felt very connected to real life in a way because pets are family. The CGI was amazing and now I want a dragon. Also my favourite actors and actresses were in it: Bryce Dallas Howard was Grace and Wes Bentley was Jack."

As an added highlight, the group travelled by train and were excited to watch the Cathedrals Express steam locomotive pass by at 11.50am! A great time was had by all.
