Airport Staff Mentor Students

Airport Staff Mentor Students

Posted: 10th November 2017

Airport professionals are giving their time to mentor Stansted students.

Year 11 students at Forest Hall School are being given career guidance by 17 members of staff from the neighbouring airport.

Once a fortnight, the mentors spend time with students, focusing on producing CVs, application letters and revision plans, as well as discussing further education and career options.

They also speak to students about their own career paths and explain how they got to the positions they are in at the airport.

Paul Conlon, director of Year 11, said the external link-up is helping to boost students’ confidence. He said: “The mentors are letting students know what career paths are open to them and what they need to do to achieve their goals. The support will ensure our students are motivated to reach their full potential. It is good for students to have a link with someone from the outside world who is not a teacher.

“The mentors are all from the airport, but from various professions so we are able to match the right mentor to each student. Students are focusing on a variety of career options, including one looking at international business finance.

“The sessions are helping to boost students’ confidence and making them realise they are good enough to achieve their ambitions. Anything that helps students towards their GCSE targets is a good thing.

“The mentors are all offering their time to help, which we really appreciate.”
